FireMe!: A tool to avoid layoffs for inappropriate tweets

Social networks can become a real headache for those people to get used to write down everything you’re thinking, without considering the consequences. Therefore, a new web tool called FireMe! detects the tweets that have messages that may lead to dismissal as “hate my job”, “I wish I fired” or “my boss is an idiot”.

FireMe! is an interesting service to warn users about messages that could compromise your work. The site detects those potentially problematic texts and sends a notification to the user, warning about the risk that run when you type them. It is a kind of filter that will help you avoid inappropriate tweets.

The website has a tool called Firemeter, a meter that shows the risk level of the tweeters being dismissed. Monitors Twitter for certain groups of words such as such as “I want to kill my boss”, “I hate my job”, “My boss is a p …”. The messages are displayed on the web by way of example, while the author receives an email that warns the consequences of that tweet.

In social networks like Facebook or Google+, users can select one or more recipients of a message, preventing people related to work or school to see. However, Twitter is much more open and the tweet could reach the eyes of our superiors in seconds. The trouble with FireMe is that their language is still very limited and only monitors tweets in English and Portuguese.
